The Zillers Boutique Hotel
Named after Ernst Ziller, the German architect who helped transform Athens from a Balkan backwater into a neoclassical city in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this newly renovated mansion has 10 pale-grey and olivegreen rooms with stencilled ceilings and carved wooden headboards. It overlooks Athens Cathedral and - for the lucky few - the Acropolis too. There is a rooftop restaurant, but it's the cocktails, served at a dark marble bar backed by a vertical garden, that turn heads: try the Ornamajo, a blend of tequila, Aperol, lime, mango and agave.
