Near the medieval citadel of Monemvasia (which is linked to the mainland by a causeway) is the luxury boutique hotel Kinsterna, set in a 13th-century manor house hidden among olive and citrus groves. Interiors draw on the building's Byzantine, Ottoman and Venetian heritage. Vaulted ceilings, exposed-stone walls, and sandstone floors covered with kilims maintain a sense of authenticity, but there are plenty of cleverly concealed hi-tech features, too.
The rooms and suites are decorated in shades of grey and olive, a natural palette that reflects the rural location.
The restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine accompanied with the owners' own Malvasia wine and produce from the estate. A freshwater spring emerges from the basement and eventually forms a signature, river-like swimming pool with private relaxation areas. There is also a dark and steamy spa.
