One of the very few remaining family-run B & B hotels in Amsterdam, The Neighbour's Magnolia is not part of any chain or group. It is located in Amsterdam's leafy southern district, a few minutes' walk from upmarket shopping, world class museums, the Concertgebouw and Vondelpark.
Boutique-style rooms are decorated in soft pastel colours, and come with large beds, a flat-screen TV, a work desk and a brightly coloured HAY chair. All have private bathrooms with a shower or tub, a hairdryer and complimentary fair-trade toiletries. Selected rooms have a balcony or terrace overlooking the garden.
A continental breakfast can be taken in the bright breakfast room overlooking the street. At the Honesty Bar in the lounge guests can enjoy soft drinks, beer, wines, savoury and sweet snacks. Complimentary tea and coffee is offered on arrival.
Tickets service and bicycle rental (reservation required).

The DNA: Hotel The Neighbour's Magnolia is the brainchild of owner Elvira Wilthagen and interior designer Frank ter Horst. Formerly a non-descript "family hotel", the hotel had a make-over as a quirky boutique hotel and in-rooms items as the minibar, artwork and closet were re-invented. Luxury, eco Coco-Mat beds and contemporary, brightly coloured furniture by HAY were added. The name? The magnificent magnolia tree in the garden of the neighbour can be enjoyed from the Living Room slash lobby.
