Week 12 DNA Hotels adds


Located in the foothills of the Apuanian Alps, just a few minutes from the Versilia beaches, Locanda al Colle is a stylish guesthouse set in an ancient farmhouse in which charm and grace create the backdrop for contemporary art works.

Warm, chic rooms feature individual touches such as white, vaulted, wood-beamed ceilings, oak parquet floors, vintage reading chairs, French 19th century cast iron fireplaces, cast iron enamel bath tubs or tubs for tow and 4-poster beds. All come with air conditioning, a minifridge, an iPod dock, and a bathroom clad in local tiles with a bath and/or a rain shower. Some rooms have furnished balconies, while others have terraces and access to the garden.

Free parking is offered and so is the extensive buffet breakfast which features homemade sourdough bread. Three nights per week, dinner is prepared on the property by a chef trained in Michelin starred restaurants. If you wish to take lunch or dinner at the Locanda outside of these special evenings, a plate of cheese and charcuterie for dinner and salad or pasta for lunch are available. Complimentary mineral water, tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes are available during the day, too. Relax in the fashionable lounges, or by the seasonal outdoor saltwater pool. In the grounds there are plenty corners to tuck yourself in if you want privacy and tranquility such as hammocks , big day beds and loungers. From the panoramic terrace and olive grove the sunset will amaze you with its wonderful ever changing colours. Massages, yoga classes, and cooking lessons are offered plus a range of off-site experiences. A 10-minute drive will take you to the Lido di Camaiore, where guests enjoy to a partner beach including  gazebo sunbeds, deckchairs and beach towels.

Located between the Arc de Triomphe and the Palais des Congès, Doisy Etoile is a boutique hotel in Paris' authentic 17th arrondisement. The elegant and quirky design mixes botanic references with natural materials and muted colour palettes. Flora and vegetation provide a guiding thread to the design and the choice of wall decoration, while thhe use of cane and natural wicker is omnipresent throughout the hotel. Facilities include the "Oasis" living room and louge on the first floor where guestcan enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, cocktails and cofee.

Originally opened in 1926 and proving that if you wait long enough, you will be back in fashion again, Hotel Figueroa rides the waves of Los Angeles' DTLA downtown renaissance. The hotel has been restored to its Spanish Colonial splendor after a two year restoration. The Moroccan-inspired lush landscaped courtyard garden with its iconic coffin shaped swimming pool has stayed but rooms have been thoroughly updated. New restaurants include Breva and Veranda, conceived by James Beard Award nominee Chef Casey Lane from Tasting Kitchen and Casa Apicii. While Dushan Zaric, New York City's Employees Only cocktail mastermind, pours a progressive spirit into the hotel's bars including Bar Figueroa, Rick's, and the reservations-only Bar Alta.

Hyatt House Jersey City is a luxury, extended stay hotel set in a former, 1920 former bank building. Original features include imposing Ionic black marble columns, 12ft-high (3.6m) bronze doors, Portoro marble walls and travertine floors. The apartment-style rooms (which include kitchens) are decked out in grey shades with deep-seated sofas, glass barn doors and and customised art depicting New York’s skyscrapers - which, from some rooms can actuall be seen through floor-to-ceiling windows. There is a rooftop lounge which views towards the Statue of Liberty. The adjacent stop of the PATH train runs straight to the WTC.

Set in a late 19th-century building on top of one of Barcelona's former passageways, the Yurbban Passage Hotel is a beautiful designed boutique-style property. Many of its minimalist-styled rooms look out into the passeway from inner courtayrds. Due to the unusual shape of the building, the ground floor is an interesting mix of the reception, a lounge, a restaurant, and a marble clad Carrara bar. Muted colors, thick rugs, dark bookshelves and playful details, including a wood-clad photo booth and a shuffleboard table give atmosphere to the place. A stunning spa and petite gym are tucked underground in an industrial, whitewashed space with hallways of exposed brick, while a rooftop lap pool overlooks the city.

Hygge Hotel is a design hotel located in Brussels' Ixelles (in Dutch Elsene) district, just a few minutes walk from the Avenue Louise. Hygge, a Danish word that denotes the conscious creation of cosy environments in order to cultivate well being has no empty meaning here. The ground floor space with a breakfast room and bar furnished has a typical Scandinavian-style designs (soft colours, lots of wood, furs and textiles) that emanate a relaxed, uncluttered sense of ease, given additional depth by the herringbone patterned wooden floor, classical high ceilings and original fireplace. Rooms come with walk-in showers and blue-and-with bathroom tiling that adds personality.

Boasting views of Lake Wakatipu and the serrated, snowy Remarkables, QT Queenstown is a design hotel a few minutes walk from the town centre. Its rather bland exterior (a former Rydges Hotel) is offset within, where vintage and contemporary furnishings and flashes of colour enliven the pared-down stone, concrete and wood interior.

Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lake and a palette of crisp whites and soft greys. Room facilities include a flat-screen TV, a minibar and a Nespresso machine. Room service is available 24/7.

✅Parking is free. Food comes courtesy of Bazaar, a restaurant concept presented as an ‘interactive marketplace’ successfully tested at QT’s Gold Coast property, which makes use of local produce to purvey a range of international flavours. Meanwhile, all things après are available from expert in-house mixologists at bar-with-a-view, Reds.
